As a psychologist, I'm interested in how people learn and students' behaviors.
If you don't follow me, I love to write about how to improve learning and productivity based on psychology and neuroscience findings.
If interested, don't miss my ultralearning principles series!
In this article, I want to share with you some apps that will help you in becoming a top-class student :)
Top 4: Focus Keeper
When learning, attention is key.
However, it is easy to procrastinate when we must study.
Also, it is hard to pay constant attention to learning.
One tactic to avoid this is the Pomodoro Technique.
This consists of paying full attention to a task for 15 or 25 minutes and a break.
Focus Keeper App helps you to do exactly this.
You can set the timer for the time you want to focus and keep track of your Pomodoros.
Although it sounds silly, it is a very effective technique.
Use Focus Keeper and you will concentrate way easier!
Personal tip: I like to study with Pomodoros and not for a defined time. For example, I prefer to say that I will study AI with 4 pomodoros instead of x hours.
Top 3: Anki

Retrieval is the most successful technique when learning.
One way to retrieve the information you're studying is with flashcards.
There are several apps to do this, but the most popular one is Anki.
Anki allows you to create flashcards easily and fast.
Additionally, it has a beautiful community of people who share their flashcards.
So if you find something useful you can download and import them into your Anki!
Anki saved me several times during my degree.
And the best part is that you can customize it a lot!
Top 2: Goodnotes
We now have tools to focus and study retrieval.
In the second place of this article, we have an app that will help us take beautiful highlights, and notes, and create aesthetic summaries: Goodnotes.
I started using Goodnotes during the pandemic and have never stopped using it since.
Also, it made me never buy my University resources anymore, as I could download the PDFs and store them on my iPad, saving me a lot of money.
The app is priced to unlock all features but is free with limited resources.
However, I decided to pay for it and don't regret it.
It changed my academic life for good.
Note: there are MANY other applications for highlighting, note taking and more. I decided to go for Goodnotes because I just loved it and could pay for the service. But there are many other apps! Let me know in the responses which ones you use :)
Top 1: Obsidian

I think the most important thing when studying is to build a second brain.
This second brain can be Notion or Evernote, but I'm absolutely in love with Obsidian.
Obsidian allows you to have more control over your notes.
Also, it works using the Zettekalsten system, where you can tag your notes to create a beautiful universe of notes.

Also, Obsidian has a beautiful community of developers, so there are A LOT of plugins you can use.
One of my favorites is the Canvas plugin, which allows you to create mind and concept maps:

Obsidian is always my top 1 recommendation for students.
If you're learning, make sure to store your knowledge in a second brain, because our biological brains are a forgetting machine.
Conclusion
That's it!
With these 4 apps, you will start becoming a top-class student :)
